From Tesla to Tanzania
Many entrepreneurs started their business out of the drive to be free. To create impact, to be successful in helping others and to live and do business in a way that suits them.
Many entrepreneurs lose sight of this after a while. They go about their daily business, rolling from assignment to assignment or working their butts off to do the best they can for everyone.
Until that one moment. That one event. That one loss. The thing that turns your whole world upside down and completely shakes the (perhaps already shaky) foundations of your life and business.
In my case, I lost my disabled sister in November 2017. After the grief, I was soon overwhelmed by a huge sense of relief. But this shook me up so much, because ‘that’s not the way it should be, is it?’. An intensive search began. First unconsciously, with all the chaos and confusion that goes with it, and then more and more consciously, because: I found out that her existence had had an enormous impact on my identity development so far.
Fostering a beautiful teenage girl only one year after my sister passed away, showed me some very valuable insights. When I had a missed miscarriage of twins in April 2020, I experienced my “enough is enough” moment. I had completely lost myself and had the opportunity to get to know myself. As a person, as a woman and as an entrepreneur. I sold everything in the Netherlands – except my motorbike – and travelled to London, Canary Islands, drove my motorbike from Amsterdam to Mallorca, helped an NGO in Tanzania and I am currently about to go to Bali for a spiritual journey. Meanwhile, I transformed my interim/consultancy business into an online business and took myself on a kind of retreat that would change everything.
As an entrepreneur, I have been building identities for people, leaders and organisations since 2009. It was high time to do this for myself as well, not just for me but for all entrepreneurs on a mission to make the world a bit more beautiful. I want to help them and I can only do that by being the best version of myself.
In this first podcast I would like to share with you the highlights of my transformative journey of almost 4 years. And especially how these setbacks and losses, eventually led to the greatest gift I could have given myself: my own identity.
And let this be the thing I want to give to everyone on a mission to make the world a better place.
